Independent filmmaker with over 20 years of experience in video production, editing and photography. From documentaries and interviews to corporate films and digital content, I bring stories to life through thoughtful filming and creative storytelling.
Work
My career in media production spans more than two decades, combining filmmaking, camera work, video editing and photography with a passion for visual storytelling.
After studying media production, I spent seven years working in IT, specialising in professional video editing systems, before moving into production as a video editor at the University of Leeds. In 2009, I established Leeds Media Services, which I ran for 17 years, producing content for businesses, universities, broadcasters and organisations across a wide range of sectors.
Over the years, I've filmed and edited documentaries, interviews, corporate productions, educational films, live performances and events. My work has taken me behind the camera in a variety of environments, working with everyone from academics and industry professionals to well-known public figures.
I'm equally comfortable filming on location, conducting interviews, working with existing footage or bringing a complex story together in the edit. My experience covers the entire production process, from planning and camera operation through to editing, colour grading, audio and final delivery.
Today, Mark Smith Films brings together that experience with a growing collection of original productions, personal projects and archive material. It's an opportunity to revisit work spanning more than 20 years, share films that deserve a wider audience and continue exploring the stories that interest me.

A passion for filmmaking
I've spent much of my working life behind a camera or in an edit suite.
My career has taken me from editing and producing documentaries to filming interviews, live events, educational content and everything in between.
For 17 years, I ran Leeds Media Services, working on productions for a wide range of organisations and clients.
Mark Smith Films is now a home for my work, bringing together past productions, new projects and films that might otherwise have remained tucked away in the archive.
